About Us

our story

What began as a graduate class project has grown into a mission of care, confidence, and community.

The Strength in Crowns Project began as a class project created by designer and Riley Threads owner DeVanique Riley. What started as an academic assignment soon blossomed into an extension of her clothing brand, using fashion with purpose to create something meaningful for women experiencing hair loss.

What started as an academic project quickly grew into a mission to support women experiencing hair loss through handmade headwear, storytelling, and community care. Today, the project creates handmade headwraps, scarves, and headbands for women navigating hair loss from medical conditions, postpartum changes, stress, alopecia, cancer treatment, aging, and other life experiences.

Each crown is designed to offer comfort, beauty, and encouragement while helping women feel seen, supported, and confident. What began in the classroom has grown into a project centered on restoring confidence, celebrating identity, and reminding women that beauty can still be present through every stage of change.
